ARC expresses concern about increasing child abuse cases

Date: 7 April 2011

Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) is deeply concerned at the alarming increase of child abuse cases in the Maldives. It is further concerned that representatives of elected national bodies are alleged to have committed this hideous crime, and calls on all concerned authorities to bring to justice, such child abusers.

ARC further calls on the Parliament to strengthen laws protecting children and ensure guidelines that would dictate harshest punishments for child abusers. It also calls on the investigating authorities to ensure that concrete evidence for prosecution be sent on a timely manner, and the prosecuting authorities give utmost importance to the prosecution of such offenders.
