unnamed

A fire safety training programme for staff at Kudakudhinge Hiya and Amaan Hiya was organized by ARC and conducted in Villingili by MNDF, on 30 May and 2 June 2014. A total of 46 staff were trained in these sessions that included both theory and practical lessons on basic home fire safety. The topics covered included the major causes of fires, how a fire starts and spreads, flammable conditions, and classification of fires. The training also focused on how to use a fire extinguisher and fire blankets, and included a section on fire prevention.

More programmes planned for the Children’s Shelters include First Aid, Emergency Preparedness and Medical First Response Training, as well as swimming lessons and lifeguard training for the staff.  A total of 75 children currently live in Kudakudhinge Hiya and Amaan Hiya and  ARC believes that is vital to ensure that the staff taking care of the children are well trained and familiar with safety measures and safe procedures.
