Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dhiraagu for dedicating the 2014 Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race towards Child Protection. ARC greatly appreciates the financial contributions pledged by Dhiraagu for the top five NGOs that received the most nominations, as well as the opportunity provided to raise funds through sponsorships and T-shirt sales. ARC also wishes to thank Allied Insurance and Seahouse for their sponsorship and support for the cause.
The ‘Race for RESPECT’ theme used by ARC for this year’s road race helped highlight the RESPECT Campaign which is designed to equip children to respect themselves, others, differences, boundaries and surroundings. This awareness campaign has a special focus on anti-bullying and anti-discrimination and aims to support students, teachers and parents to promote positive and respectful behavior to create safe and healthy environments for children.
ARC was among the 6 NGO’s endorsed by Dhiraagu for this year’s Road Race and has also previously worked as a social partner for the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race from 2011-2013, which were dedicated to the prevention of child abuse.
Over 750 individual runners and members of various institutions participated on behalf of ARC this year, among which include runners from the Housing Development Corporation, ADK Synergy, Bank of Maldives, and Ministry of Health and Gender. ARC greatly appreciates the support from all the participants and praises their efforts in helping make a difference for the cause.
ARC also takes this opportunity to extend deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Abishek Singh from ADK, who passed away tragically after participating at the Road Race. Dr. Abishek dedicated his run to support the children of Maldives, and his work to serve the people of Maldives will always be remembered with profound gratitude.
