Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has commenced RESPECT campaign awareness sessions for parents and teachers this week. Sessions have now been held for parents of Grade 1 students at Muhyiddin School and for childcare-workers of Kudakudhinge Hiya. This is a follow up of the RESPECT campaign activity sessions held for children at Villingili from 4 – 8 March 2014. Further awareness sessions for parents and teachers have been planned throughout the year, and will be conducted by ARC’s senior consultant on Education Ms Fathimath Nahid Shakir.

Among other activities planned under the RESPECT campaign include activities for children, training for pre-school and primary school teachers, developing a resource guide of classroom activities, supporting schools to organize a RESPECT week during the academic year, as well as training and guidance to schools to develop anti-bullying policies.

ARC is pleased to note the positive feedback and support from the schools towards this campaign and looks forward to greater levels of participation from parents in ensuring that the messages of the RESPECT Campaign are reinforced both at home and at schools.
