ARC organizes a panel discussion to highlight issues facing children with disabilities

Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has organized a panel discussion to raise awareness on issues facing children with disabilities, to mark the International day of persons with disabilities, 3rd December.

The panel discussion was organized by ARC in association with TVM and will be participated by representatives from the Ministry of Health and Gender, Maldives Association of Physical Disables (MAPD), Association of Disability and Development (ADD), Beautiful Eyes – Down Syndrome Association and Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives.

Participants will discuss issues ranging from the need for early detection and intervention, limited opportunities for education, access on transportation and access to buildings, as well as lack of consultation in drafting laws, regulations and action plans relating to persons with disabilities. The panelists will also discuss recommendations and appropriate follow-up action.

The panel discussion will be aired tonight (3rd December 2013), at 2205 hrs on Television Maldives.
