Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) in partnership with Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association has held a Speech and Hearing Camp for children and youth with disabilities in Addu City from 4th to 6th March 2019.

During this camp, an international speech therapist provided children with speech and hearing impairments with free consultations and diagnosis, individual assessments and audiometric tests at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, and provided parents and caretakers with intervention tips that can be useful at home.

The therapist also conducted a 2-day workshop for over 30 teachers working with children with special needs from 6 schools of Addu City including Sharafuddeen School, Nooraanee School, Maaradhoo School, Maradhoo Feydhoo School, Feydhoo School and Kangaroo Kids Addu City. The workshop focused on ‘improving articulation and speech’, ‘minimizing communication challenges’ as well as other useful tips that can be practiced in a classroom setup.

ARC and Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association wishes to express appreciation to Addu City Council, Hithadhoo Regional Hospital as well as schools for their assistance and cooperation.
