Certificates have been awarded to all the children at Kudakudhinge Hiya who had learnt to swim over the last school holidays. The closing ceremony for the month long Swimming Programme held in partnership with the Maldives Swimming Association took place at Villingili on 15 March 2013. 27 children from the shelter participated and greatly enjoyed their time at Villingili Beach.
ARC wishes to take this opportunity to thank the Swimming Association of Maldives for their generous support and expertise, as well as Sonee Sports Pte Ltd, Sun Front Pte Ltd, Voyages Maldives and other private wellwishers for their assistance in getting the necessary equipment for the swimming sessions.
As part of the Holiday Programme, children above the age of 5 were also provided with the opportunity to participate in the Kool Kamp- a leadership camp conducted by the Leadership Academy at Imaduddin School in December 2012. Peoples Pro International and ARC saw this as an opportunity for the children at the shelter to learn, enjoy and socialise. Ms. Bassama Farooq, Director of ARC, also attended the closing ceremony of the Kool Kamp at Kalaafaanu School as Chief Guest.
ARC hopes to continue the Holiday Programme every year, for the children to have fun, help them learn new skills as well as to help create more happy memories for the children during their school holidays. Previous Holiday Programmes for Kudakudhinge Hiya by ARC, also included Swimming and Art Programmes.
